Love Your Liver
January is a popular month to de-tox. To focus on pure foods and limit the amount of alcohol you drink. This will help to reduce the amount of toxins coming into your body. Your liver is a fabulous friend to have. When it works well, it can help you feel bright eyed and on top of your game. It is the greatest multi-tasking organ in your body. If it is working well - you feel great. It is active throughout the day and night - breaking down toxins, eliminating hormone fragments, helping to keep your blood sugar on an even keel and is also a storage area for iron and vitamins A, B12, D, E and K. Basically it does a lot of work, but it does benefit from a helping hand as well.
In February, focus on feeding your liver. Firstly, keep it hydrated - drink plenty of water each day. Keep drinking until the colour of the urine which you produce is a very pale yellow. There are specific foods which are also good for your liver. These include onions, garlic and eggs. These foods are all high in sulphur, which is vital for liver function. Brocolli and cabbage, both in season just now, are full of powerful antioxidants.
If you up your intake of liver friendly foods, you will give your de-tox process a boost. Remember to limit the amount of processed sugar and alcohol you drink. Give your liver a break from these and eat more of the sulphur containing foods. Make a change and feel the difference!
